Paul’s Bakery 2021

Sharing is caring!

Paul’s Bakery has the best donuts in town.

Paul’s is the oldest family-run bakery in town, founded in 1973.

When I was younger and before founding RTU, I would do my long runs on Saturday mornings on Lee Drive and head over to Paul’s for a post-run donut and soda. In those days, I was paying $2.28, and the staff knew what I wanted before I ordered. I always had correct change.

My donut of choice was a chocolate-covered ring. Paul’s is the only shop I know that uses chocolate cake frosting on their donuts.

After founding RTU in 2007, I started doing long runs on Monday mornings, and Paul’s is closed on Mondays. I was not able to go in as often. After measuring a racecourse or fasting for a blood draw, I’d go in. Over time, the price raised to $2.50.

With the sale of RTU in 2020, my Saturday mornings freed up. However, at the same time, my digestive issues started, and Paul’s appeared to be one of the triggers.

Since early 2020, I have only visited Paul’s a few times, once after my Colonoscopy and after finishing JFK in November 2020. The donut is worth the digestive issues.

I had a fasting blood draw this past August and a donut reward.

With my racing season complete, on Saturday, Dec 18, 2021, I joined the FARC group run downtown and then headed to Paul’s before doing some Christmas shopping.

I didn’t recognize any of the staff. The donuts still have the same delicious quality.

Even with the new increase in COVID cases, they did not require masks, and the line of about 15 people snaked inside the store. The employees and I wore masks. We know how to take care of ourselves.

Inflation is everywhere: $3.25. It was well worth the price.

Since Saturday, I must have been pacing myself well, having had no digestive issues.
