I’m doing much better. I still have some aches and muscle strains on my right side and worry that they may become severe during a run. So, I’m running a little slower and cautious.
There was overnight rain, clearing in the morning. When I got out, it was 69 degrees with a 66-degree dew point and misty rain. Within the first 30 minutes, the rain subsided.
I need to up my long run for a fall marathon or ultra. So, I did 16 miles on my Belmont Ferry Farm Trail, Falmouth Bridge, and Heritage Loop, plus 5 miles of out and back on the BFFT into Brooks Park.
I don’t usually wear newer shoes on a rainy run. But, I had to wear my Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 as I am underpronating in my Nikes. Fortunately, there were no puddles or mud slicks, and my feet stayed dry.
My run was back up to speed with a time comparable to my long runs done before my July issues.
I didn’t bonk in the last 2 miles and negative split my final 5-mile segment. I’ll be ready for 18 miles next week.
You may have noticed that my important weekly workout is a long run. I hadn’t done any speed work since 2003 when Achilles’ issues started. My speedwork is now in my shorter races. I hope my mile race on September 11 won’t strain anything.
