Full disclosure: I have a Hilton Honors Diamond Level membership.
In this year’s travels, I’ve spent many nights in Hampton Inns and a few in Tru by Hilton motels.
Tru motels provide most of the Hampton Inns’ amenities at a lower price point. Their target market appears to be younger travelers.
Tru rooms are clean but small. To be able to provide a lower price, compact furnishing and space-saving layouts are used.
When a Hampton Inn is not available, I’ll use a Tru motel with hesitation.
The bathrooms have a small vanity and no tub. The only towel shelf is below the sink. To save costs, there is no bottled shampoo or bar soap. Instead, large tubes of liquids are in the shower and beside the sink walls.
The floors are not carpeted. There is no closest. There are wall hooks, and a hanging bar is above a small refrigerator. A microwave is not in the room. There is probably one in the lobby for guest use. I used the shelf below the clothes bar for my traveling microwave.
There is a small writing desk, and the big screen TV is wall mounted with small shelves below. The shelves are in place of dresser drawers.
There is plenty of space for a king-sized bed with two small nightstands on either side. Throughout the room, there are USB receptacles.
To compensate for the smaller rooms, there is a large gathering area in the lobby. The space is used for a complimentary breakfast in the morning. The two motels I stayed in had pool and foosball tables in this area. Tables and couches are available to socialize.
