We’re into the Major League Baseball Playoffs. The World Series starts on Tuesday.
Last winter, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer as a free agent. With the signing, the Dodgers had one of the best starting rotations.
Full disclosure: I’m not a Dodgers fan. Since 1978, I’ve followed the Atlanta Braves. At that time, the Braves were in the same division as the Dodgers. So, I don’t prefer success for the Dodgers.
Since mid-summer, Trevor Bauer has not been allowed to pitch. He is not injured. His performance has not degraded.
He is on MLB suspension from an unsubstantiated domestic violence claim. The released evidence and pictures are not pretty. Two people’s rough sex is another person’s opinion of domestic violence.
I don’t understand the appeal of affixation and partner striking. What is agreed between two consenting adults is, well, consenting.
The woman is from San Diego. Not to disparage her, did she take one for the team? The San Diego Padres were fighting the Dodgers for first place in the National League West during the spring. Southern California residents were sure the Giants were going to fade.
Bauer lives in Pasadena, which is at least 2 hours away from the woman’s resident. She made two trips to Pasadena about 30 days apart, in April and May.
In June, she made an application for a protective order which triggered the suspension. In the application, she told of the rough sex in April. Yet, she still went back for another go in May.
Bauer told of a discussion about a safe word in the May encounter. During that session, the woman became unconscious and awoke bruised and battered. I’m still not sure of the pleasure.
In August, the protective order was denied as Bauer never indicated he was hanging out in San Diego, and all he did was with consent.
The #metoo movement is too real for victims. Some men take advantage of others because of their position. Those victims need to be heard and believed.
In the Bauer case, there are too many strange happenings and makes one wonder. This case has impacted a person’s career dependent on youth, and we don’t know why?
The Dodgers could have used another starting pitcher in the regular season and playoff push. Max Scherzer complained of a tired arm and was pulled from a scheduled Game Six start against Atlanta in the NLCS.
I already told of Jose Urias’ issues in a post: Major League Baseball in 2021 – Slow Old Runner
He was not as effective in this year’s NLCS. Did he lose his grip, or was it another tired arm?
As for the Padres: if Bauer was still available to pitch for the Dodgers, would the Padres have been able to finalize the trade for Scherzer and improve the final standing?
There is always next year. Go Braves. I don’t believe it has been 22 years since they were last in the World Series. They haven’t had many down years in that span.
Now in the political spotlight: World Series games will be played by a team with a racist name in a state with a new racist voting law and another state with a new sexist abortion law. I hope we can play ball without all the political interference.
