On Restriction Week 3

Sharing is caring!

I’m in recovery week 3. This means I’m continuing imposed and self-imposed restrictions.

My doctor wants me to keep my heart rate at or below 70% of my max. He has removed my weight-lifting and running restrictions. I should not swim or take baths for a couple more weeks.

For a third week, I’m keeping my heart rate under 60% and no running.

I was restricted from lifting anything over 10 pounds. Fortunately, that was removed as I replaced my office desk this past weekend. I bought my old desk in 1997. It has been moved seven times. In its last move around 2020, one of the legs had issues, and I’ve had a makeshift fix since then. In the next year, I need to replace the carpet and a window in my office. The desk would not survive. Rather than trying to replace my desk with that work, I went ahead with it now.

Last Friday, 1-800-GOT-JUNK came and removed the old pieces. Before their arrival, I moved all the contents of the desk and my computers to another room. The price was a little high, and they arrived 30 minutes late.

Earlier that morning,  two boxes from Wayfair were delivered by FedEx. At 65 pounds each, I was allowed to move them into my living room. Each box contained the pieces for an L-shaped computer desk with an upper shelf above the desk surface. Two Ls make a U to replace the old U.

With the old desk being removed 2 hours after my desired time, I only finished with 80% of one of the Ls.

Finally, by 1 pm on Saturday, I was finished building and started moving stuff back into my office. I have everything unpacked and have thrown out a few things that should have gone many moons ago, like Oracle Software CDs from 1996.

During the entire build process, I wore my heart monitor watch with an alarm at 115 bpm (60%). I only had to stop and sit once during the build.

I’ve walked every day, even if that was only to CVS or my doctor’s appointment. Leading up to my ablation, I took my beta blockers at lunch after my morning run. It’s not pleasant running while on beta blockers and rhythm-controlling drugs.

To keep me slowed down, I changed my routine to take the beta blockers at breakfast. It seems to keep me from pushing too hard too soon.

After the Tree of Life 5km this Sunday, I can limit myself to 70% and start running 30-second intervals. Hopefully, my legs get enough work during my recovery.
