The past Tuesday was a good day for me.
For the first time in many weeks, I woke up without a scratchy throat. Since I snore, the vibration has caused a minor soreness every night. Perhaps during the trail run, I did on Monday, I blew out all the congestion.
Tuesday morning, I ran over to the Eagles Lodge on Cool Springs Road to vote. The building is only 1/4 mile from my house. But, there are woods, a creek and railroad tracks between my house and the polls. The 2-mile route to cross a bridge was OK until the rain picked up.
Once inside the polling precinct, I had to make sure not to drip water from my hat onto my ballot. As I approached the tabulating scanning machine, I thought I heard the woman in front of me saying something about being from England to the poll worker. Puzzled, I let it go.
At 8:30 am, I was the 289 person to cast my ballot. That is a good turnout number.
Later that evening, all four Republican candidates were projected winners. I’m a Libertarian and Republican candidates lean toward most of my positions. Earlier this year, I was a delegate for the Republican Convention. The party got many people invested in the process, which helped get people to vote in the actual election. They should use that process going forward for all primaries.
Later in the evening, the Braves won their first World Series since 1995. Since there are 30 major league baseball teams, winning once every 30 years would be a sign of parity.
I’m going to take credit for the Braves win. After the Braves won their third game in the series, I started betting on the Astros. It was a win-win. If the Braves won, I’m happy. If the Astros won, I would be a little richer.
I bet $10 on game five and then let the total winnings ride over to game six.
When the Braves went up 3-0 in the third inning, I put another $10 on the Astros at +300.
When the Braves went up 6-0 in the fifth inning, I put another $10 on the Astros at +1400.
If the Astros pulled out the victory, I’d be up over $200. I’d rather be happy even with the triple down.
Also, that evening, the first College Football Playoff poll was released, and the undefeated University of Cincinnati was left off. We need to take the human opinion out of the selection process and allow teams to earn their spot on the field. This link is to my ideas to make the process fairer.
