Wegman’s – Carded at 65

Sharing is caring!

As previously reported on a Facebook post, on Christmas Eve, a cashier at Wegman’s asked to see my id to make sure I was old enough to buy beer. The last time I was carded, I was 35.

It was a busy day with many last-minute grocery shoppers. When I pulled into the parking lot, The closest spot was about 100 meters from the doors. I decided to take a cart from one of the kiosks in the parking lot. As many times there are no carts left near the doors.

Cashiers occupied all of the registers, and most had lines of at least three waiting customers. Since I pay with cash, I need to use a cashier. The self-serve registers only take electronic payments.

With COVID infections rising, I wear a facemask while shopping. The mask, ball cap, and hoodie may have disguised my grey hair and old face, exposing only my young eyes.

Could I have been dreaming? I checked the receipt, indicating that the cashier had keyed a birth date.

I did thank the cashier, but they did not respond. Not that it makes any difference, the cashier’s name was Hero, and I could not tell their sex.

Here are pictures of what I bought to validate that this slip is mine.

As an afterthought, I could have shown them my Medicare Card. However, they may not have known what it was.
